I am going to build a my all purpose .308 Hunting Rifle.
Checked the used gun market and hard to find a used 700 BDL in a Short action caliber for under 350.00 so I might as well by a new action from Chesters at $395.
My question is my other two rifles that I ma going to keep ar Ruger 77 old styles.
What do you think about building it on a Ruger old Style short action. A few of those around for below $400. I would then keep the factory stock?
How much value do you guys put in having all the same action?

I personally like the older Ruger 77's. They look like a classic rifle right out of the box. There is a school of thought that states that if all your firearms are the same, under stress you will always do the right thing, and I think that there is a certain amount of truth to that. But personally, I would find it much to limiting. If you like the looks of the Ruger, build on the Ruger, it's a good rifle. FWIW - Dan

I would go with the Remington action as many more gunsmiths are familar with it and I love P64 type Win actions and Mausers but the Ruger "cast" action doesn't work for custom as well as the others..IMO...and the Rem is easier to bed and get good results....glass and Pillars or action block and the triggers adjust better or get a Jewell.....I have nothing aganist Rugers and have several pistols and rimfire guns by Ruger and they are good people but just prefer other rifle actions for modification!!!! good luck and good shooting!!!
