My brother's A-5 was having problems feeding a following round. The flipper wasn't pushing the next shell up. He said he had taken to a gunsmith who cleaned it. I cleaned it again and oiled it a little. The flipper started to work and it hand fed 10 rds flawlessly. I then fired 25 rds with no problem. It has stood in the corner for 2 weeks and when I tried it today again it failed to feed after firing. Only this time I pushed the side button and it would chamber the round. It did this every time I tried it. What's worn, broken, or perhaps still dirty on this shotgun?

Are you saying that it locks open each time it is fired? What kind of load are you shooting? Is this a 3" gun, and if so how do you have the rings set up on the magazine tube? It sounds like it is still a little "sticky" and that the oil that was used on the magazine tube is gummy, or the action spring was not cleaned and is slowing down the recoil enough to cause the malfunction. One other problem that can happen with an A5 is that if you are not standing square behind the shotgun, too much recoil action is lost in pushing the shooter around, and the shotgun will not function.

Hello Duane, thank you for your advice. The A-5 is 2 3/4 only. I did wonder if the magazine spring could be weak, but decided probably not. The bolt sticks open like it's empty. I don't believe the loads have anything to do with it either since I fired about 50 of the same loads through another A-5 without incident. Perhaps as you say it's still gummy in the action somewhere. When I cleaned it I didn't take it apart, but used an aerosol carburetor cleaner. Since a gunsmith had cleaned near a year ago and it hasn't been fired that much since then I didn't think it could be in two bad of shape. Perhaps it didn't get the attention it needed. I'll try again. If you have anymore advice please feel free. I'm always looking for new knowledge. Thanks again Duane. Gary

Gary; I would clean the magazine tube with fine steel wool, and the lube with friction block, tetra gun, or one of the other "space age" type oils, wipeing off the excess. This usually does the trick.
