I am writing this for a friend who is interested in having a very unique conversion done. Like my self he is an active duty soldier at Ft Bliss, TX. What he would like is to have a 1858 converted to 22lr. He realizes that at the very least he would need to have the barrel sleeved if not a new one made and the same goes for the cylinder. He wants to do this for his father who loves to shoot classic cap and ball pistols but due to some health issues he no longer can shoot anything more powerful than a very mild 38 SPC and lacks the hand strength to load a cap and ball cylinder. Cost of ammo and lack of reloading equipment make it unfeasable for him to shoot a standard cartridge conversion. That is why my friend Steve would like to have one converted to 22lr. I am not sure who even would be interested in doing this project, but if you know someone could you please share contact info with me?

Hi,
Consider having one made up in 32 mag. Low recoil in a heavy gun like the '58 Rem. I like '58s and now that you have me thinking about it I might do one for myself.
I spent a lot of time at Ft. Bliss myself in Bldg 2477
back in the 60s

I know right where 2477 is. I work out of 2453 which is right around the corner.

He really wants the 1858 to be a 22lr. Since he doesnt reload and ammo cost is a concern it rules out any centerfire.

This conversion is amking me want one myself.
