Replacing Pachmyr recoil pad on 1965 Winchester M70. After plugging four screw holes with dowel rod and glue, started sanding butt of stock. I've been careful to keep a similar top-bottom "cant" but I'm now wondering if the left-right "cant" should lean very slightly to the left (toward a right-handed shooter) OR am I overthinking this and I should just keep it perfectly square?
If so...Any tricks to keeping the butt square?...stock has a raised monte carlo cheek piece that is playing tricks on my eyes when trying to keep the butt square.

Thanks for helping out a novice!

Keep it straight and square. Use a belt or disk sander to true it up.

tu2 When in doubt use the KISS principle. Keep it simple st---d. I often try and make things more complicated than they are. Have to remind myself of KISS on a daily basis. coffee

As usual just my $.02

Of course, Ram is right, and you should keep it square.

Just finished squaring it up on the belt sander.

My Dad bought the rifle new and at some point installed a Pachmyr F250 lightweight pad. I'm replacing the now rock hard pad with a slightly thicker Pachmyr F350 deluxe.
