300 PRC LETTER

Hi Its has been a while.
I like you thoughts on this cartridge .
I had a FN Mauser rebarreld to 350RM this allowed me to seat a 250gr bullet =/- 5/16”further out transforming into powerful Elk rifle.

A 50cal rifle, bullets available: 550gr heat threated .512” Diam
600 gr Barnes .510”Diam
750 A max .510”Diam

Talked to Pac Nor [20 years ago} They send me a beautiful barrel 1:14 twist good for the 550 cast and the Barnes Maybe a bit fast for the 750.
The key is it has a long parallel throat of .5105” If I seat the cast bullet to its normal depth it wont chamber being a cast bullet and needs to be 1 to 2 thou bigger to fill out the rifling the I got around it to go for size for size and a softer alloy.
However to 750s slide in no problem single feeding, the rifle is very accurate and a lot of fun.

Isn’t this what Hornady did, a bit more case capacity ,a tight maybe parallel Throat and maybe a match grade chamber???
If this is so I would be interested in a project like that, I realize the difference between the existing 30s is small but as far as accuracy at long range or ultimate accuracy period without going bench rest or a super barrel burner.
I really like to see the difference in chamber dimensions.
In one of my gun safes there is a custom Montana in 300 H&H, chamber ordered with a Clymer match chamber but its not.
Regards Martin.

Martin,

If your question is "Do you like the idea of the .300 PRC cartridge?", the answer is yes.

I think it's a well-designed cartridge that's fast enough and is set up for long/heavy long-range bullets, like the 6.5 Creedmoor and a bunch of the new chamberings.

Sorry for the late response.
I believe its something to look into.
I no longer hunt so not so much interested in light weight.
Like steel barrels.
I am left handed but don't mind a RH rifle.
The stock needs to be ambidextrous.
Trying to find a high end rifle that fits the bill
