For those wanting a simple way to machine flutes on a chamber reamer this devise can be made for under $80. A 60T gear will advance 6 deg per tooth so every 12 teeth will give an even spacing for a 5 flute reamer or cherry cutter.



A more complex dividing tool could be made by employing a second gear



Hold still varmint; while I plugs yer!
If'n I miss, our band of 45/70 brothers, will fill yer full of lead!

I believe this is from a very old issue of Practical Machinist and uses change gears from a South Bend 9" lathe. Several years ago, someone posted the full article on one of the home machinist forums....www.chaski.com, I think.

It's also very easy to make a 36 to 1 divider from the worm and clutch shaft of a SB apron.
It won't look as neat as the one shown. Kenny
