I am thinking about getting the low rings for my M77 but am not sure whether the bolt handle will clear the eyepiece of the scope (Leupold M8 4X, about 39mm in diameter). It works fine on the medium rings with plenty of room for the objective to clear. Does any one have low rings with a similar scope? Thanks.

I once had a 77 Mk 2 with low rings and a Leupold 2.5 x 8 scope. There was plenty of clearance --

Which of course brings up the question, How the HECK do you figure out what height rings to use with any particular scope on any particular rifle??

Is there some listing somewhere that gives a CLUE?? Is there a difference based on bases used?(did that make sense?)

My scopes are mostly Leupold and mostly 40mm objective.

I believe that both the Leupold and Burris web sights have "fit guides". You enter your rifle and scope model and the guide makes recommendations for rings and bases --
