DuckbillMod 70 Black Shadow stock question
I picked up a Mod 70 Black Shadow 30-06 in a trade. I got it strictly for a hunting rifle. I decided to paint the stock in my own camo design. The camo paint job is more to personalize the gun than to conceal it.
Anyhow my question...
I took the recoil pad off and find a chunk of styrofoam inside the stock. What function does this piece of styrofoam serve? Do I need it? What to replace it with?
Thanks

James C ScottIt's to silence the stock, and make it firmer. I would just put the pad back on and forget about it.

Terry BlauwkampI had one of those, and replaced the stock with Hogue pillar bedded stock. That made the recoil much more tolerable.

DuckbillTerry,
This thing does kick like a mule. I was going to put a better recoil pad on it, but may eventually change stocks. Right now I'm just messing around with it as it's strictly a hunting rig. Thanks

jeffeossoprime it with a plastic specific primer, and paint away... hit it with a UZ absorbing clear coat, and the deer won't see it
