Mod 70 Black Shadow stock question
I picked up a Mod 70 Black Shadow 30-06 in a trade. I got it strictly for a hunting rifle. I decided to paint the stock in my own camo design. The camo paint job is more to personalize the gun than to conceal it.
Anyhow my question...
I took the recoil pad off and find a chunk of styrofoam inside the stock. What function does this piece of styrofoam serve? Do I need it? What to replace it with?
Thanks

It's to silence the stock, and make it firmer. I would just put the pad back on and forget about it.

I had one of those, and replaced the stock with Hogue pillar bedded stock. That made the recoil much more tolerable.

Terry,
This thing does kick like a mule. I was going to put a better recoil pad on it, but may eventually change stocks. Right now I'm just messing around with it as it's strictly a hunting rig. Thanks

prime it with a plastic specific primer, and paint away... hit it with a UZ absorbing clear coat, and the deer won't see it
