Hey guys, I have a few rifles that have one piece mounts, the kind that have one screw in back and two in front (If I remember right) not sure the brand, they take the leupold rings I think. Is going to two piece as easy as an extra screw hole drilled in the bridge and new bases (new rings of course, as these the front ring turns into and then the rear has two nuts that tighten it down), or will there need to be some contouring and TWO new holes? These are military sporters all. Red

It's been my experience that the holes on the rear bridge drilled for one-piece mounts are rarely useable for two-piece bases. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

One piece bases for sporterized military rifles presuppose that there are no holes already in existance and that the receiver will have to be drilled and tapped, therefore they do not have to conform to preexisting holes. Those bases for commercial actions, on the contrary, have to fit the holes already in existance. Commercial receivers are drilled and tapped with a hole spacing in mind to fit the largest number of possible scope mount arrangements, so that a bridge base can be substituted for a two piece base at will. It will be pure luck if an additional hole can be added to the receiver bridge of your converted military rifle to allow the use of two piece bases. My question would be, "Why do you want to make the change?" One piece bases are more rigid and may actually contribute to the rigidity of the action, an important factor in military Mauser actions, with their large thumb cut.

I was thinking about maybe going to detachable rings on them, or at least prettier rings on one. isn't really important as all are factory, but thought if could be done easily I would. Red
