Mark X safety problem

Have an interarms mark X in 30-06, when I fire a round it appears that the recoil causes the safety to slide rearward into the safe posistion, so I can't open the bolt; have to push safety forward to cycle the bolt to eject the empty. I only loaded/fired one round at a time, is this a safety feature to let you know that this is the last shell? Should have tried a full magazine. Any thoughts on this, thank you, Jsal

The MKX safety normally has a ball detent system between the safety lever and the trigger body to keep the safety from moving easily. Is the screw loose or the ball missing. In my MKXs I remove the front tab on the safety so I can open the bolt on safety. Later models were built that were built that way from the factory.

As usual just my $.02

Ramrod, thanks for the info, another question for you, can you replace the trigger and safety setup with an aftermarket one like a remington type trigger (adjustable) + safety model? If so, would you know the specific make or model?
Thank you for your help, Jsal

Timney, Bold and any number of others make a trigger for the M98 &FN with side safety. For a hunting rifle I've never had trouble adjusting the factory trigger.

How do you go about doing that?

30 sec with an abrasive cut off wheel. Take off less than 1/8" from the top of the tab and it will no longer lock the bolt.

I extend the curve around the front mounting screw and remove the entire tab.
