Thought I would show off Roger's work on a rifle he recently completed for me. This started out as a cosmetic rework of a Brno 602 and turned into what you see.

The .458 WM was rechambered to Lott, retaining the original barrel. Roger restocked the rifle with a blank from Dressel's and added a new bolt handle, cross bolts, barrel band sling swivel and NECG front sights, as well as a warthog ivory insert that he milled into the standing rear sight. He also added a Wisner 3-position safety and modified the trigger to eliminate the set feature and replaced the trigger bow with one from a Winchester Model 70. All metal was taken down to the white and rust blued and Jerome Glimm added some tasteful engraving on the bolt handle, cross bolts and floor plate. Roger slicked up the action and ensured proper feeding. He had this rifle displayed on his table at the Custom Gunmakers Guild show in Reno last January. I'm glad he is proud of it. I sure am.

Excellent choice of a stock blank. Grain flow is outstanding, running from the toe up through the grip and out though the top of the fore-end. Very classy! Thanks for sharing.

Another very well done rifle....we're fortunate here at AR to be able to see this type of art.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hello David W,
I have had many hours of design, art, and engineering classes over the years and one theme always brought out by those of high discipline, training, experience, etc. has always been the very simple, but oh so true theme of "form follows function..." and often times this is viewed as art in it's purest form and would certainly say that the rifle pictured is a prime example of firearms art. It is truly classic in all respects. The builder is not only a highly skilled craftsman, but a true artisan. Outstanding in all respects and thanks for sharing.

Beautiful rifle. You say it is a NECG front sight, but it doesn't look anything like the ones I've seen; looks much more like the original. Reason I'm interested is I'm doing a similar project right now and I haven't found an NECG front sight that I'm certain will work with the integral rear sight height--all are too high. How'd he do it?

Thanks

David:

Great looking rifle! Roger is putting together a .30-06 on a pre-64 Model 70 for my son. Roger is doing all of the barrel, action and sight work. Our very own Bill Soverns is doing the stock, which I got from Denli.

Nice looking rifle David!
How are things in Kerr Patch these days?

I went to Schriner for a couple of years in the mid 60s.

LMFAO! Big Grin

David, that's a terrific looking rifle. Everything's there that should be and nothing that shouldn't. I really like that piece of wood. Roger does great work and it shows in this rifle.

Thanks for all of the comments about the rifle. As Driver said, Roger is an artisan and craftsman. He is also an excellent guy to work with.

David, the rifle will get used for what it was intended. I'm going to Zim in September for elephant and buffalo and may carry this rifle or a .470. Which would you choose?

John, you're right about the front sight - it is the original. Roger just changed out the front bead with one from NECG. That counts, doesn't it? Smiler

Rusty - HOT and DRY, but otherwise things are good in the Hill Country!

Forrest, thanks! I guess the cosmetic part just got a little out of hand this time. Cool

Beautiful. Roger does a great job of reworking stock CZ-Brno602s/CZ550s.

David,

Take them both! You'll be spoiled for choice... Smiler

Are you planning to mount a scope in QD rings or stay strictly with iron sights?

Once again.....That's a great looking rifle!

Dave

David,

I wanted a traditional type rifle for dangerous game, so I had the stock set up for iron sights. Now we'll see how long my eyes hold up... Smiler
