Last night I was adjusting the trigger on one of my latest aquisitions, a Rem 700 mountain rifle in 280 rem. The factory trigger was set at about 8 pounds, it made a Ruger seem light! I feel as if I am compitent enough to adjust the trigger my self. I adjusted it to about 2.5 pounds, it still has a tiny bit of creap, but I couldn't get rid of it with out taking the trigger appart or better yet just replacing it! I did the drop test from about 2 feet 3-4 times, slammed the bolt hard a dozen times with the safety off, pulled, wiggeled and did the jig on the trigger with the saftey on and then released it and the pin still didn't drop. This is the way I have always done it, and have never had a problem. Is there any other techniques to make sure its safe that I missed? Thanks Ivan

the screw at the top of the trigger houseing,is the trigger stop {over-travel}that is in the front of the trigger houseing.Adjust that one.The weight of pull is under it.The screw on the back side of the trigger houseing, is the sear engagement screw.

I know you did the drop test and what not, but I don't trust your adjustment procedure. I don't know how it's possible to get a reliable, consistant pull under 3 lbs with the stock Remington spring and finish. When I re-do the Remington trigger, I stone the sear square, flat and smooth (few factory sears are any of these), polish the pins and holes as well as the sides of the parts and case. I then install a LIGHTER spring. This insures everything is smoothy and reliable, consitant spring pressure rests against that dreaded connector. I know a lot of people say they can "adjust" a factory Remington down to under 3lbs - I just don't believe it is a safe and consistant "under 3lbs". John

true and definitely not consistent.

I have had several Remington M700 triggers reworked by Neil Jones, and they all have very consistent one-pound pulls. Of course, these are for varmint or match rifles and not the type of hunting rifles to be lugged around. For my match rifles, however, my main triggers are Jewell or Davies, and I use the Remingtons as backups for "just in case".
