I have a couple of FN mauser clones(JC Higgins M50) that have the wider hole spacing(.860") for the rear scope base.

I am looking for bases for these rifles. I believe I used to see bases listed for Mausers with both the standard .500 spacing and the wider .860 spacing, but I don't see the .860 listed any longer. I am wondering if anyone might point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Jason

I found them available at Talley, both on their web site, and by calling to order. Of course then I suppose you have to use their rings too, which isn't a bad thing.

Thanks, I don't know how I missed that. I love the quality of Talley mounts, but I hate how high they are.

Does anyone know of any other manufactures?

Jason

I did not find any when I looked. I made my own to look a little like a double square bridge. They work nicely and look pretty good. Is not a task for those who value their time. Talley's are much cheaper!

Jason,

I have and have had FN drilled that way too.

Other than Talley's, which are on my present rifle, I have found that Warne makes a Maxima base for them. I forget the number, but if you call them they can tell you which numbers you need if you want to go that way. I have also seen Conetrol's made for the longer rear spacing a while back. Don't know if they still make them though. I would bet you could have S&K make you a set as well. I spoke to them about doing custom bases for a ULA rifle and they had no issues doing custom bases for not really much of an upcharge.

Hope that helps some...

Bob

Jason,
I recently had the same problem with the a jc higgins FN mauser. I purchased a #82 Weaver base it is the correct radius for the receiver of the FN and the correct height for the front Weaver base. (I think it is six inches long so you could make several bases if you need them) I have access to a machine shop so I drilled and countersunk the holes at .860 for the correct spacing. Make sure the rear hole in the base is very close to back edge if not the bolt handle will interfere with the edge of the base. I had to file the corner of the base on mine before I mounted it. You can cut the #82 to use the factory bolt groove for the rings.

I have a rear base that I made for a client who only specified "Leupold" bases. Seems he only wanted the QRW base instead of the windage one.

I found that out after I made one for the rear. It is custom and in the white, identical to the factory base except it has the hole spacing you need.

That base and, I think, the front one is available.

Email me if you are interested

I believe Leupold used to sell some of their bases undrilled. You might give them a call.
