Hello

I have a stock that is a great piece of wood. However, I am not happy with the finish on it. When I wipe a light oil cloth over the stock the grain and color really come out! I do not want to refinish the stock but was wondering if they is an oil I can rub into the stock to give it a light sheen like when you wipe an oil cloth over it.

Thanks
Mark

Do U know what the stock is currently finished with ?. Some say true oil check out Brownells selection of supplies .
I prefer Urethane myself brands and quality vary greatly . Look at Floor Urethane either Oil or Water based types .

Dr.K

It Winchesters version of an oil finish. It seems very dull until you wipe an oil cloth over it!

To answer your question, I have had good results with rubbing "Tung Oil" over finished wood, though I suspect you will never be truly happy until the stock is properly refinished.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

You might try some Howard Restor~A~Finish. I've used it with good results.

Hi,

Birchwood Casey make 'stock sheen'. I've used it to bring out the figure in wood underlying the finish of several rifles. Finishes varied from 'oil' to urethane.

Use Teak Oil from Daly's in Seattle. Gives a terrific finish.
