Is there an easy way to remove and reinstall the main spring.

With the forend off and the rifle upside down and the action cocked, look to the front of the spring where it enters the forend hanger. There is a hole that will accept a small pin. With a pin inserted through the hole, pull the trigger and the tension will be relieved. Simply remove the spring and strut. Just reverse the procedure to install but make sure the hammer is in the forward, firing position.

Thanks Jim.
I feel like taking a hammer and pounding my head. How simple can it get? I struggled with that spring in and out. Had that little washer fly against the wall, lucky I found it again.

I took a old guard screw bushing -shortened it slightly and cut two small square notches at in one end. When you take the spring assembly out you can use an arbour press or drill press(I use my Bonanza reloading press) and bushing to compress the spring safely to remove and replace it on the strut.
