I bought a charging handle for a youth shotgun (11-87) to make it easier for my son to load his shotgun with small hands.Anyway after looking around on the web and seeing all of the problems people have with them falling out I purchased this one.To make a long story short, it fell out on the first round. After exchanging a bunch of them( I have 3 of them now) they all fall out no matter how thick the portion that goes into the gun it. I even have one that is too large. Elite tell me that the ball detent inside the gun does not hold the handle in( I don't agree) and so they don't machine a hole in their handles. Doe anyone know of a solution for this ? I can see the ball detent in the action and I am pretty confident that it serves a purpose. Any infor on this is appreciated.

The back edge of the handle is notched for the ball. The ball is what holds it in. The notch is made by dissecting the edge with a 1/8 endmill (half a hole). It is located .750" down the back side from base of the finger lever. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I does have a notch there now.Maybe it is too big.The owner of Elite tactical keeps telling me that I am insane and that the ball doesn't do anything. Thank you for the sanity check. I guess I'll just pitch the handles I have- they aren't even big enough to be a good paperweight.

Ask him what the purpose of the ball is and to explain the notch on the handle. Before you go 86ing the handles, remove the bolt carrier group, then the bolt, smoke the back edge of the handle (or use a marker) insert it completely into the carrier, remove it and look to see where the contact (rub marks) with the ball, stops. Perhaps the location of the ball is out of whack with the notch. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.
