7.62 is loaded to lower pressure than 308... simpley put, they aint the same.

mexican mausers, and I think there's a couple other small ring 98s, have been done for years... in fact, i've got mexican mausers in 257, 708, 308 (rebarreled) 358 win, 376 steyr and 458 winmag (405's only)

Didn't kimber do 96 swedes in 308?

As I remember those spanish 93 , 308 mausers are not strong enough for high pressure 308 rounds.
