I'm wondering if anyone out there has a ruger M77 MKII 338 w/ the iron sights. I was thinking the front ss barrelband might work for some other projects I'm considering, but I don't know the OD of the barrel, if someone could measure one, I'd greatly appreciate it. TIA

I have a 375 No. 1 Tropical with the barrel band, will this help? P.S., 500J reamer arrived today, fire off an email to me and let's discuss barrel contour.

If its and help the barrel band will stretch considerably with heat and it can be cut to larger size than it is..Also it is easy to reduce its size by cutting it lenthwise underneath and soldering back on or you can tig weld it back together...At any rate you can make any barrel band fit on any barrel if your a little handy... Remember: A good gunsmith can get away with anything as long as he can make you believe he did it that way on purpose....The art of converting mistakes into custom features has been in practice for many years...

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at getting a Ruger SRH 480, but don't like long barrels, so figured I'd cut it down to 6". The problem is, ruger put this funky paint finish on the gun, so the approach by smiths so far is to bob the barrel, re-solder the front sight, then bead blast the gun. What I was thinking of doing was bobbing the barrel, then epoxying a ss barrel band front sight on. I'll have to get my buddy to measure his 480, and see if thats in the ball park. I should be able to stretch it out, and clean it up on the lathe.
