Rich,
while i've heard that rumor, it's not mutually exclusive with running... why, if an ANGLEASH laird saw my kilt up about ANY of his kit or kine, I'ld expect running would be in order!!

besides, the lasses says "hhhheeeeffffff----ffeeeeeee" so sweet

The first project is getting everything up and running, and then I'll work on a set of gifts for the guys that helped me move these monsters

Jeffe,
Let's try this one more time.
I assume the 2 mag switches means this is a reversible machine, so far so good?
Is the motor 240V or 120V? Single phase or 3 phase?

If the mags are for reversing, each mag should have an auxiliary contact to interrupt the control to the other mag so they can't try to operate at the same time. Can you tell if the controls are connected properly? Is it a standard 3 wire motor control or a manual starter for each?

I assume you've checked the control fuses, switches, and wiring from the transformer to the mags to see if you have power at each point?

Do you have a low oil switch somewhere on the machine?
If we run it down one point at a time, we'll eventually find the problem.

it has 2 mag switches, 24v control for mag switchs, is 110v, and has a 220 transformer, that makes the 24 and 240.

If i manually depress the mag switches, it runs...

since i got it NOT RUNNING, i expect i'll find a missing wire or bad connection..

any help would be appreciated

Congrats on your new machines Jeffe. Thats a good sized lathe, which is needed after filling ones head with ideas the size those that are in the big bore forum. When are we gonna get pictures?

yep

120v single (heh)

this is correct.. can't run, even depressed, them both... it gets very upset

3 wire controls... continuity SEEMS to be there... I am nearly to the point of drawing it 100% out, and sending it to ya

I assume you've checked the control fuses, switches, and wiring from the transformer to the mags to see if you have power at each point?

yep.. and rechecking in about 20 mins, fuse passes, 120 on both sides..

Do you have a low oil switch somewhere on the machine?

nope.. and it's full, just changed it

If we run it down one point at a time, we'll eventually find the problem.

Sure enough... i'll spend about 100 years of pain (that's 20 mins of jeffe doing something he hates) to write it out, and I have the schematic for a CLOSE machine... from the same co...

Ah, well, the mill is running off the VFD.. it's magic!!!
