I know discussion about which brand to buy has been beat to death several times over. But this is a little different. I have a Kimber M-89 BGR with a featherweight barrel in 270 Winchester I'd like to restock in fiberglass. Trouble is, nobody but MPI makes a stock for this action. I'm figuring that the 89 has the same footprint as the post 64 Winnie with the exception of retaining the Mauser bolt stop. (Yeah, I know the barrel matchup is like the Mauser too, but that's INTERNAL and does not affect bedding.) Am I correct in thinking that Brown and McMillan stocks have solid action areas so I could modify the thing to take my model 89 without damaging the stock? What about the Hi Tech stock? Would cutting the bolt stop area weaken the stock, or would I be able to add some acraglass reinforcement? Any Ideas and/or suggestions would be welcomed. Man, I hate the idea of buying an MPI stock. Too many of you guys think they are crappola! What say ye?

The High Tech is solid from the grip to the front of the recoil lug also. I usually reinforce the area I cut out with some fiberglass cloth and fiberglass resin- just like fixing a corvette fender or a boat. Any of these 3 will should work.

Have you actually discussed this with McMillan? I have only had good dealings with them, not something I can say about my experience with MPI. I suggest you email Dick Davis at McMillan dickd@mcmfamily.com. He is a very accommodating guy and excellent to deal with. Fergus
