I am not really sure how thick mag box metal is (and I am to lazy to go measure) but I assuming it is say 20/1000. I am also assuming the mag box insert serves no other purpose than to provide a good smooth side housing for the follower and ammo. What prevents someone from filing down the front and rear wall of the mag box 10/1000 each to pick up say an extra 20/1000 cartridge length if they would like to seat bullets closer to the lands. The possibility that the box will be too flimsy at that point. But as long as it is inletted well it would still have support. But filing out .010" would take a long time to do. I'd just cut off the front and silver braze a new cap on the front extending the mag as needed. www.KLStottlemyer.com Deport the Homeless and Give the Illegals citizenship. Kerry, Let's be clear...I am not allowed to work with sharp objects or flames. Was really a theoretical question on my part. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? I've done it on a MKX. Don't remember the gain and it isn't my rifle. The owner wanted a little more room to seat the bullet out just as you memtion. If you look at a rear wall in a MKX 375 it is paper thin. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I understand. I was trying to give you a better option. But you could (Baring time and boredom) sit there and wittle on it. But theoretically Communism work too Sooooo.... www.KLStottlemyer.com Deport the Homeless and Give the Illegals citizenship. AT LEAST THE ILLEGALS WILL WORK

Mike, it wouldn't be worth the trouble to gain a measly .020 (20/1000ths). Maybe it would be worth doing something to gain .200 (200/1000ths). Other interesting numbers that don't necessarily pertain to this thread are: 2.000 (2 inches), .002 (2/1000ths), or maybe .0002 (2/tenths of 1000ths). Tenths .100, hundredths .010, thousandths .001, ten thousandths .0001 Getting back to the thread, depending on the round, if you want to seat closer to the lands, bring the lands closer to the bullet. Set the barrel in and close the gap. Or go with something like a "Wyatt's" magazine box. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I've done this a number of times. What I usually do it mill out a short piece of material in a "U" shape and high enough to match the box, weld it on and then remove the material from inside the box. This makes it much easier to hold everything together. You also need to mill out the feed ramp to match.
