Jeff, I've already got a 338WM so the 338-06 is more of a want than anything. I've got a Model 70 in 30-06 and wanted to make something different. No need as it shoots good as a 30-06. I currently have two guns all setup for my hunting here in Alaska. A 338 WM and a 308 Win. Both are Remington 700's (sorry Allen) and wear Bansner stocks. The 338 is 7 3/4 lbs. all scoped and the 308 is a tad under 7. The 338 WM has been my go to rifle since I've been here, 12-years. It's been flawless in terms of performance and reliability. For a while I had a factory wood stock on the 338 and added the Banser about two years ago. The weight went down and so did the felt recoil. I know the recoil couldn't have gone down, but the stock design sure made it feel like it did. At 7 3/4 it's a great mountain rifle as is. I tried some 225 Accubonds last week...they shot real well and will probably be my go to bullet for everything in the 338WM.

Allen, don't mean to put you on the spot here, but weren't we going to see some visuals of your rifles? While kind of on the topic of rifle weight, how much does your Echols .375 weigh? Thanks, Chuck

Ditto on that. The Scoville is based on 9.3x62 dimensions which are also slightly bigger at the web so more capacity than any improvement on the '06 case. I have a 338-06 AI that works fine but would have gone to the Scoville if it had been available at the time. Not for the last bit of FPS but for 2800/210 gr with a little less pressure.

That's OK by me! My first hunting rifle (I still have it) was a Remington 700. I've hunted with them a lot over the years, and with good results. AD

JAB, Unless you are planning on using factory Weatherby 338-06 ammo in this rifle, why not think outside the box? I had a Rem 700BDL made into a 338-06AI by R.W. Hart using his cousin's SS 24"barrel in a H-S Precision stock. Super accurate and with the muzzlebrake easy on the shoulder when bench testing. But if I had it to do all over again I think I would go whole hog and get the maximum from that ole '06 case and have Fred Ziglin chamber it in 338 Hawk\Scovill. It pushes the shoulder forward for more powder capacity and not such a long neck as the 338-06. I think he goes by 'z-hat custom' something on his website. And he's located in the pacific northwest--more convenient for you. BTW, he sells the reloading dies, also. One stop shopping!

JAB Fred Zeglin is the gunsmith that has the Hawk reamers. He is in Casper Wy. He also has reloading data and Hawk stamped open necked brass. He built my 338 Hawk barreled action. PM or email me if you want any specifics on the 338 Hawk. Mine is built on Mauser VZ 24 with a Douglas #3 contour, 24 " barrel. If I had it to do over I would opt for a #4 contour and go with a 23" barrel. I get an honest 2850 fps with a 210 Nosler Partiton over a Chrony with no pressure signs. Have loaded the same brass over 5 times and still have tight primer pockets.
