Last winter I decided to have a 9.3x62 built. Having an abundance of 1903-A3 sporterized 06's around I chose that action and had a local gunsmith order a Pac-Nor barrel. As I was going to put a different stock on, the original not too impressive wooden handle was left for the time being. I have had the finished gun for about a month and finally found free time when it wasn't raining, so to the range for the first we went, the gun and me. After fooling around with a 45-70 for a while I got the 9.3 out, loaded it with Norma 232 gr. factory and began to dial the scope in, [Unertl Hawk 4x]. I fired twenty two rounds, the last three measure 9/10 inch at 100 yards. Most were used up trying to figure out the Unertl adjustments, no clicks and it doesn't take much movement of the dial to make a big move at 100 yds. I did not follow any break in regime, just took my time and blasted away. I know that is sacrilege and I should be horsewhipped. The local gunsmith who put the project together blued the barrel, trued the reciever, the lugs and screwed it together for $160.00. Forty bucks more if Pac-Nor doesn't finish chamber the barrel. He normally does but doesn't have 9.3 reamers. His name is Mat Strickland and he has just begun advertising nationally although he has been smithing for many years. Nobody around these parts can afford a custom built rifle like he would like to make, most of the business is low budget work like mine. Barrel and gunsmith together cost me $415.00 and I had $185.00 into the rifle. Africa ready for $600.00, now if I could find a safari for $1000.00 maybe I could afford Africa. Oh, and the 45-70 is under an inch and a half with factory ammo, Black Hills 405 gr. I love it when a plan comes together.
I have been drooling over a 9.3 myself. The questions that I have in my mind are as follows. 1) 9.3x64 or 9.3x68 2) What action to build it on? currently I am thinking about one of the older ruger M77 actions. 3) What bullets to shoot? thinking of the 286gr partition. 4) where can i read more about 9.3's? 5) does 9.3 a dangerous game cartridge make?
I just love european cartridges, what are your thoughts on the 9.3?

9.3x64 is a factory chambering and cartridge. Its the .375 H&H antagonist, same power, ready for shorter action. The 9.3x68 is a wildcat, slightly stronger.
The 286 grs Nosler should be the ideal bullet. Ive heard that the partition is well forward ( higher retained weight ). Its quite aerodynamic, which is not true for all .366 bullets.
It will be appropriate for DG.
Do a search around these forums. You will find all you ask.
Key search words: 9.3x62, 286, 320, Ray ;-)
