Saw this for sale on GA. I was just wondering how difficult or easy it is to remove such a dent? Any ideas?

BTT What's the chance of getting a reply on this one? I thought we had some gunsmiths on this forum

I saw this the other day and was hoping someone with experience might post something, so here is my 2 cents worth- I would make a punch from 1/4" plate, cut it in a C or G shape. Now disassemble the gun and place it on a smooth piece of hardwood, or if you can find a copper plate use that, just make sure whatever the anvil surface is that it be spotless and smooth. Now using a 6 oz hammer or so tap it flat from the inside. Polish, reblue, and reassemble.

I guess if funtion great and worked will I would Buy real cheap and use it as is. When you look down the action and barrel does it all appear in line and not bent. I don't think I would try and pound it out or heat it up. It is most likely not worth send it back to the factory to fix. Nor having very good smith fix it. You can buy some real nice 99s for 300 dollars or so.

I cannot pull up the photo, so I shooting in the dark but if the action of a 99 is bent or has a bad ding in it then I would pass on it....pounding it out would always be less that satisfactory IMO and I suspect the action is "sprung"
