So I want to lighten my Montana 1999 .375 H&H. It's currently in a wood laminate stock. I'm thinking that if I go to a blind box mag and an ultralight stock I can shave a pound or more off the package.

Anyone done this kind of work before? Any suggestions on this?

Regards,

Robert

MPI makes a very light stock. Their website says that they can fit a Montana: http://www.mpistocks.com/

High Tech specialties makes a stock for the montana 1999 around 20-22 oz. I would also consider chopping it down to 20" if it isn't already too. 4" of barrel will reduce weight quite a bit and isn't really needed with 375 H&H.

Laminates are the heaviest stock material around that I am aware of - as you have found.

If you don't like synthetic stocks, Claro Walnut, Maple and Myrtle are all very light-weight and pretty to boot.

However, if you need the stability of a synthetic stock, but like me, despise their looks, check out Accurate Innovations (see the links in my sig line). A.I. has some great Claro, Myrtle and Maple that would make a fine lightweight stock. Also Their aluminum bedding system is completely stable - so you can have the beauty of wood with the stability of a synthetic.

Hope this helps,
Nemo.
