Hello Folks A friend has a very nice "Kipplauf" german guild type single shot rifle in 9.3x74R. However the bore is very badly pitted and corroded. It will not shoot at all despite much playing with loads, measuring of the bore etc. We were wondering if it might be possible "save" the rifle by having it lined to both renew the tube and convert it to a calibre more suited to our local game - something like 7x57R would be ideal. Is it possible to reline barrels in this class of cartridges ?? Cheers - Foster

I wouldn't think so; not enough meat in the chamber area. But it could make a nice, if heavy 22 Hornet. Has your friend considered a rebore to a larger caliber? "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

I have no real experience with relining but once had a nice 98 Mauser with full ribbed barrel (rather thin profile) that had been relined to 22-250 by Gebby. Shot well with no problems although I never shot it that much. It came from Gebby's estate and I assume was one of his personal rifles. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS
