I was wondering if anyone has ever made a drop mag for any Mauser? I would like to be able to speed up my reload time when out coyote hunting. I can manufacture the peace my self. But I wanted to check to see if anyone knows if it has been done?
Thanks for your time!

Do you have any experience with this one? I was wondering if it greatly reduced the length of the magazine.

Those from gunparts REALLY suck. Been there done that. They are single stack feed too reducing mag capacity to 3 rounds.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Aha! The deficiences of the Mauser system compared to the Lee Enfield rise again!

However, if you are using a bipod, in WWI the Germand did make a twenty round "trench magazine" for the Mauser and I don't think that it would be too difficult to fabricate such a thing.

Also Parker Hale on the 1200 rifle (essentially a Mauser) had a detachable magazine option.

That might be the best bet?

Not that many... Frowner But will help keep spare ammo and speed up shooting up at the range. I have to get in there and replace the spring and a few other small things and thought it would be a nifty project for this winter.

How long does it take you to reload ?

If you top up every time you fire, unless you get
into a firestorm of shots, how often do you run out ?

Do you mean like this?

That is some nice work. I'm looking for a detachable mag, where I can drop one out and slide the next in. I have axis to a machine shop, and will have my own shop soon as I finish the floor and get the power hooked up. Smiler

The rifle in my signature photo is the one I would like to add the detach mag to.

The mags offered by Numrich are of decent quality, but the extra metal for the locking device makes them heavy. They are long enough for .30-06 cartridges, but since the 98 already has feed rails the magazine must be single stack, limiting it to 3 cartridges.

In Europe they are very expensive.
