Got a guestion for the guys in the know. I picked up a MKX Witworth stock for a project. As I was looking in the stock the crossbolt is right at the edge of the area for the recoil lug. The crossbolt has a flat side. Does anyone know if the flat goes towards the recoil lug or the bottom of the action?

On any mauser 98 pattern rifle, the flat of the crossbolt should contact the rear flat of the recoil lug. It helps distribute recoil across the the stock.

The crossbolt goes straight through the stock from one side to the other, behind the action lug, is square behing the lug but round on the sides. The ends are sanded flush with the surfaces of each side of the stock.
