A few months ago I purchased a new CZ 550 American rifle with the “Kevlar” stock. Before I purchased it, I noticed the barrel was touching the stock: pre purchase I contacted CZ-USA and was told loosening the action screws and pushing the barrel over fixed this issue in the majority of cases. If pushing the barrel/action over didn’t resolve the issue, CZ-USA said they would repair it under warranty. Their suggested fix did nothing, so they sent me a FedEx tag to return it for repair. The very day they received it they sent me an email saying that there was no problem and that all of the B&C stocks they had on hand exhibited the same problem. I called and was treated with hostility by the gunsmith, eventually I spoke with someone who cared, it was agreed that while they had no replacement stock to make the repair, we could “downgrade” to a walnut stock. I agreed to this, and the rifle was returned. Upon receipt I noticed the barrel was floating by about 5/8 inch. At first I assumed they had somehow used a varmint contour stock. I sent phots and it was decided that the bedding was done improperly so that the barrel was at an upwards angle. Again they sent a FedEx tag and the rifle was sent back for repair. CZ-USA received the rifle today, and emailed me that there was in fact no problem, and that the stocks were made with a deep U shaped groove so there would be no problem with free floating. I do not believe this to be true, as I have another 550 of the same vintage that has a perfectly fit stock. I am looking for input from anyone who may have had a similar issue and how was it solved. I do have photos of the rifle, but am unable to figure out how to post them.

I got a Kimber that had a few little problems to address. It was not free floating as it should have been .I didn't want to sand down the barrel channel so the easiest fix was to put a stainless steel shim under the receiver just behind the forward screw. That raised the barrel to be free floating -- cutting the group size in half !! Get the original stock and do what I did . Don't ask ,tell them !!

10 minutes and a bit of dowel with sand paper wrapped around it. But that's awful simple. When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years! Rod Henrickson

Speerchucker-Thanks for your cynicism, most often, if you don’t have anything productive to add to a conversation, you should remain silent. The original “Kevlar” stock was manufactured incorrectly, the left side of the barrel had a huge gap, and the right was touching for most of the length.

Hey CJ don't get your panties all bunched up, he was talking to Mete who posted a comment about using shims for his barrel problem. Be less light skinned and quick to raise a ruckus and you will learn from these people.
