I have been thinking about rebarreling my Ruger m77 mkII from 30-06 to 6.5-06. After the new barrel is properly headspaced and installed shouldn't I be able to swap the barrel back to the original without messing with resetting the headspace? I don't know why I would but one never knows.

Should work as long as nothing was done to the action between rebarrels; like lapping the lugs, bolt face or receiver face for some.

You'll need a barrel vice (or is it vise?) and you'll need an index mark on your barrels to be able to install to proper headspacing every time.

What else you'll need, our resident smiths will probably fill in...

The only thing the index mark is good for is aligning the sights or extractor groove on a CRF gun. Headspace will come out OK, You can't over tighten it.

The shoulder of the barrel against the shoulder of the receiver will keep the headspace the same.

Thanks for the responses. That is what I thought. My head has been messed up for a couple days from prescription pain killers following surgery.
