I just got a Volquartsen brown laminated stock. I would really like it to be a lot darker, similar to the Winchester Coyote stock. Is there a way to stain the stock to make it darker? thanks!

I would remove the coat(s) of finish, if it has any. Lightly sand the stock. I use synthetic steel wool. If you want to make the stock darker, I would use an aniline dye rather than a conventional stain. I recently finished a mystery wood stock that would not take a conventional stain at all. The aniline dye did the trick.

I am finishing another Boyds laminate stock (cheap and work great) and wanted a darker finish. I used Watco Danish Oil Finish in a cherry color and it worked out great. I am sealing it now with custom oil and am very pleased. What ever you use test the stain with your sealer to make sure they are compatable.

Thanks for the advice! I've got some "watco" oil I'll try on barrel channel.
