| I would remove the coat(s) of finish, if it has any. Lightly sand the stock. I use synthetic steel wool. If you want to make the stock darker, I would use an aniline dye rather than a conventional stain. I recently finished a mystery wood stock that would not take a conventional stain at all. The aniline dye did the trick. |

| I am finishing another Boyds laminate stock (cheap and work great) and wanted a darker finish. I used Watco Danish Oil Finish in a cherry color and it worked out great. I am sealing it now with custom oil and am very pleased. What ever you use test the stain with your sealer to make sure they are compatable. |
