I notice that the Buffalo Arms catalog says that these come with two (2) mounting screws. I only see one screw in the top tang on my Uberti 1873 Short Rifle. Do I assume correctly that this means I have to have a hole drilled and countersunk in the tang to install the sight? I wouldn't try to do this myself!

It has been a while since I have seen an Uberti 1873. But I think there should be a small screw up by the hammer and then the larger tang screw. So, of the two screws that come with the sight, one should be a longer tang screw. You need a long tang screw to go through the sight and all the way to the bottom tang. Then the short screw goes up front in the hole closer to the hammer. If there is no hole up close to the hammer then yes, you will have to drill and tap. Really, now that I have written all this, call Dave Gullo, he or his staff will be able to tell you if that is correct. Michael

Yeah, I was gonna order it from him anyway. His prices are better than Brownells, and he has the sight from my 1895 Win. I was gonna mail it with a copy of my C&R though, just in case he gives a discount. Do you know if he does?
