Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am considering purchasing a sporterized Kar98k Mauser in 8x57 Mauser. It is dated "1940", but instead of the letter designation for the manufacturer, it has the number "243" where the crest would be on the top front of the receiver.

Where could I find a reference manual that would tell me what "243" meant as far as determining the manufacturer?

243 was code for Mauser Werke A.G., Berlin-Borsigwalde.
