(NB. I posted this under different heading but it was too similar to an earlier post)

Saeed & Don hope you see this post.

I know both of you have personal experience with HS Precision Stocks.

I got delivery of my stock Model PSS 39. I removed the aluminium recoil lug on my Sako L691 .375 H&H & just put the action into the aluminium bedding block. The rear fits like a glove but the little circular protrusion on the action is a really tight fit ito the aluminium bedding block.

I could not get it in by hand pressure alone. So I put a bit of fishing reel grease around the knob & tried it again. Went in a bit more but to really get it in I had to put the floorplate back on & the use the action screws to pull it into the bedding block.

Now my question is: how do I know if it is fully seated. Does it matter as long as it is tight? I used a Chapman screwdriver & then used the ratchet driver to further tension it. Should I relieve the hole in the bedding block so that the lug on the action fits into the stock by hand pressesure alone?

I have contacted the local distributor but he has not installed one on a Sako himself. I could not find a contact email on the HS Precision web site. The local guy said that to find out if it seats all the way put a ball of fresh bread between action & bedding block & tension. Sounds like a good idea. I haven't tried it as I am not even sure I can get the action out of the stock again. How do I get the action out if it is stuck in there? Any ideas?

Would really appreciate your advice and from the others who have had personal experience with these stocks & Sako's.

Thanks in advance.

JohnT,

I have used several HS - Precision stocks, but never a Sako.

IMHO, The hole should be a slip fit. If you have trouble removing it, treat it like an M1. Roll it over with scope down, support the action with one hand and give the comb of the stock a sharp upward slap. The action should stay in your hand and the stock fly up. Catch both! If it does not come right out, move the left hand down to the forearm and hold upward pressure with the finger tips on the forearm while holding down on the barrel and repeating the slap. This keeps it from binding from the tilt.

Given what the others are saying, I would skim bed over the aluminum with Brownells steel bed. Rough it up with sandpaper and clean with acetone before bedding. Follow the directions in Brownells kit.

JB Weld also works well for skim bedding over the aluminum. $2.50 worth from WallyWorld and you are in business. The release agent is a stickier wicket. I have seen recommendations to use Pam spray, but have never tried it. I always had some Brownells release agent left over.

Good luck,
Don

John,

I have installed a few HS Precision stocks on Sakos, but have not come across this problem.

I think as long as the action and the stock are tight together, there should not be a problem.

Lease it as it is and shoot it to see how it works.
