I want ot build a flintlock on a swamped barrel Rice .54 cal. I think 42" but would probably like 38" Isaac Haines style okay.

Like the looks of Isaac Haines golden age/transitional/John Bivins style, Buck County/Lehigh style (though handling the Cabelas Blue Ridge was uncomfortable due to very low comb on roman nose stock and too much weight forward), and Tennesee Mountain Rifle style. Thinking iron furniture kit.

For vendors, how about Dunlap Woodcrafts and Track of the Wolf? Any recommendations?

Yes, I build lots of these. Stay away from anything mass marketed like from cabalas; will never be worth anything. I get everything from Pecatonica river, and some parts from Track. The 38 inch Isaac Haines makes for a very nice light well balanced rifle in .50 cal. A 42 inch swamped is also nice but will be heavier but swamped barrels make them balance well. You will get the best wood for the money at Pecatonica. (the largest stock maker in the world)
Also, the Tenn and southern mountain rifles are nice, and Pec can put sswamped barrels in them for you.

Agree that Jim Chambers and TOTW have top quality parts. Their rifles will require more work, but it will be worth it. Most of the "kits" are cheap junk.

I have build one Chambers kit and his stocks are inletted for the buttplate, which Pecatonicas are not. Otherwise, about the same. He does assemble his own locks. And the parts are all the same; there are only a couple of parts makers in the US. Track of the Wolf; their stocks are made by Pecatonica River. Track does not make anything. Get Tracks catalog; a great source of full size color pictures of all parts and rifle kits.

Thanks, all.

Any thoughts on iron vs brass trim?

I'd probably still want a brass tip on my ramrod (scares me to run a mild steel ramrod tip down my soft steel barrel).

How about single trigger vs double trigger. I am leaning towards single trigger because I think this model looks great with the single trigger and I'm thinking it'll be mostly for hunting. But my club has offhand muzzleloader shoots, and set triggers are nice for targets.

It all depends on which era and maker you are trying to re-create. IE, you can't build a Tennessee rifle with brass hardware (I have); it ain't period correct. Your ramrod tip can be brass in any case. You don't that rod anyway; on the range you use another loading rod do you don't damage the nice one on your rifle. Single triggers are fine; no real advantage over DSTs; I have several of both. I was out shooting a NW trade gun yesterday, I built as a rifle; don;t need any smoothbores. Get track's catalog and you will see everything. My Isaac Haines is all iron mounted. I can send pics if you want. Northwest Trade guns are a good place to start; easiest to build.
