Besides the drilling operation on a lathe what is involved with the installation of a .22 caliber barrel liner? Specifically, after you have drilled the hole how do you install the liner (is a press fit, is it glued or solder in, etc)? Thanks,

You can glue it, epoxy, or solder it in place. I think Brownells has an instruction booklet for both processes. It is not a press fit. mc

You need to drill out the old bore with a 3/8" bit attached to an extension. I use a lathe. Then epoxy the liner in place. Face both ends. Chamber and crown. Here is a tip. When you get close to the muzzle, stop drilling. Regrind your bit so that the cutting edge tapers back to the flutes. Sort of a conical shape now. Continue drilling but stop short and leave a tiny amount of "choke" at the end. Now put a taper on the end of the liner. You will now have a zero clearance fit as you push the liner into the muzzle end of the barrel. Glue it as usual but tap the liner foreward into the choke area. Be sure you have extra at the breech end that wil be cut off later for the hammering surface. If you do this right the job will be nearly invisible.

Scot I do the same thing you described only in a slightly differant way. I end up with the last half inch toward the muzzle drilled undersized, then I use a straight reamer of appropriate diameter and ream to liner size. Makes the liner near invisable. Differant method, same results.
