I have a Savage 99 with a shot-out .303 Savage barrel. I want to rebarrel it to 22 Savage High Power. I can get a .227 barrel from Lothar Walther, and I have a magazine spool for the 22. I'll need a smith to do the work, and probably a source for a chambering reamer. I'd rather rent one if I can. Any reccomendations?

Yes, go over and ask on the Savage 99 forum, those guys will be able to help you. Might even have an extra barrel...
OTOH how old is your gun? The early 99's might not hold up to the .22 HP pressures.

There's nothing magical about barreling a 99, and I think the very first chambering they did was for the .22 High Power. A popular cartridge in Europe I'm told.

There's a Savage 99 'smith here in Montana that does quality work. He did a .228 Hi Power rebarrel for me 2 years ago ( PacNor barrel).
His name :
Doug Wells
PO Box 46034
Huson, MT 59846

I don't think he uses email.
