I love my Interarms Mark X 458 win mag, but I don't like the trigger mounted safety. Because I only use the gun with a red dot sight, I don't need scope clearance for a rear safety so I'm thinking about installing a military shroud and a wing safety. Can this be done economically?

Should be a simple swap and remove the safety from the trigger. If your rifle has the speed lock bolt and cocking piece then you might need to do a little work to the cocking piece.

As usual just my $.02

I had a Whitworth in 458 that I put a military flag safety and military two stage trigger in. A bit of tweaking, but worked fine.

Thanks guys, I'm going to put in a Timney Sportsman trigger as that's what I have in most of my other Mausers (those without military triggers).

Just to clarify: Is there anything that must be done beyond disassembling the bolt and replacing the commercial shroud with a military shroud and the safety? I'm not averse to sending it to a gunsmith, but if I can do it at home so much the better.

If you don't have a speed lock it should be pretty much a drop in. If have the speed lock then it will require some minor work.

Be sure to check function of trigger and safety when complete. Your cocking piece may need some work to make sure everything is right.

Do this, (UNLOADED) put your safety in the middle position, pull the trigger (get rough with it and pull it several times) then return safety to fire. Then on full safety and do it again. If the firing pin doesn't fall when the safety goes back to fire you're good to go.

As a general rule, people are nuts!
