I have a Ruger 77 MKII that started life as a 223 and the boldface was opened up for a 6.8SPC.

The question is how easy is it to modify the bolt face back down to handle the 223Rem again.

Not very easy.

I would look for a bolt or swap actions before I would go to that trouble.

As usual just my $.02

Thanks, I thought that was the case. This action has been trued and lapped. I will look for another bolt.

You'll probably find that you'll be quite a few dollars ahead to just sell the 6.8 and use that money to go buy another 223.

Yeah, it is easy to open them up and hard to make them smaller, although it can be done, I have done it; you solder a ring on the face and mill it to the diameter you want. Low temp solder.

Can you TIG weld them, or is that too much heat? I know we can replace the extractor for the other side.

As per tig welding lets say you can with the right person on the torch. Paying attention to how much heat is being poured into the bolt face and surrounding areas. You can't just take it to any shop and have it done.

I've done my far share of bolt face welding and micro welding so lets just say it's not easy
