What would be the difference in the length of the opening on the bottom of a Pre 64 receiver depending on whether it was a .375 length action or a .300 Winnie action.

What would the length of the magazine box be for a .375 action.

Thanks

As far as the actual dimensions, I can't say but, the difference in boxes is the filler plate in the rear of the box and the length of the ejector. The filler can be removed to give you a .375 H&H length box and the ejector can be ground back to allow the longer case to be withdrawn farther from the chamber before actual ejection takes place.

NOT TRUE! The only filler in a pre-'64 box is in the short or 308 size or the swift. the mag box on the 375 is 1.690" and the standard, 300mag box is 1.500". Someone correct me if I am wrong but I just measured both.

well, I have a magazine box here that measures 3.610 inside length with no fillers, and I am trying to figure if its a short magnum box or a .375 box.

I take it that it is correct on the receivers that have the cutouts on the front ring and rear bridge that they also have the front lip of the cartridge mortise cut away a well so the longer cartridges can more easily feed.

Well, outside length on this one is about 3.80. It has two dimples, one in each side, which I presume to be cartridge keepers (or whatever they are properly called). But a dial caliper inside says between 3.610 and 3.620 depending on how deep inside the box I measure it.

My box is by Wyatt's www.wyattsoutdoor.com
It's supposed to replace the standard magnum (short box) to the .375 H&H length..... The original box length of the 338 Win Mag with the spacer removed is about 3.620 or so

So what I have here must be a .375 Action with a .338 Box. Gotta find a longer box.

Roger Rule's book on the M70 has pictures of all factory mag box variations. If I was at home, I could settle the issue! Big Grin

if the box is 3.610 internally and the receiver has the cutouts, then they are both for 300/375 H&H.

The short mag boxes are the same length as the '06 boxes, just different widths and different ridges

Let's go back to my original response. He said he wanted to know the length of the cutout in the action. I stated that figure and the figure for the standard,30-06/short magnum length.

What I said is what I said. And what I said was that I wanted to know two things. First, I wanted to know the difference between the length of the mag box opening for a .375 mag and one for a short magnum action. That would be one number. Secondly, I wanted to know the length of a .375 Box.

What you provided was two measurements for Mag boxes, not saying whether it was length or width, and no number for the difference, if any, in the action opening.

Doesn't matter. I now know what it is. Its a .375 length action with matching box.
