I was wondering if there are " Patterns " available for stock shaping ?.

I have never made a stock but have finished , refinished many of them even dressed checkering and done a little inletting . Just never made one from a blank .

I have inherited several stock blanks from a Friend who was an excellent professional stock maker . Sadly he is grievously ill now and I can't ask him about it .

A sad lesson which I've yet to learn ( " Don't Wait to ask someone about some thing you wish to know about ) because you figure there will always be time later !!!.

Any way I'm going to practice on a few of the laminated pieces first , I made some of them up for him some years back . Before breaking into those xxxx blanks that's for certain !.Those have prices on them in a marking pen OUCH Expensive !. So I shall not attempt to screw up on those .

I wish to put together a bench rest either in .284 7MM or 6.5 MM .

I'm looking to make a flat bottom fore arm area or triangular shaped affair . First determine the action ,barrel I will be using then proceed on to the stock . Correct ?.

I thought I had better post this . I'm a lefty !. Well actually Ambidextrous but prefer Left hand when firing rifles . Who would have thought it Huh .

Shoot straight know your target . ... salute

Some of the information you need can be found in the scholarship rifle post pinned in this section. The info you want starts about page 10 or so. (Going by memory) As to off the shelf patterns, I am not aware of anything being available. However, a drawing in two planes can be made fairly easily if you have a mental picture of what you want, and a few other stocks to crib measurements from. The front view can then be cut out and used as a pattern, allowing a bit of oversize when you bandsaw out the rough form. Measure twice, cut once and you will have a lot of fun with the project.
