Sure did........If they got them, they're hiding them. They have blued straight slot, thats all. I've checked with Midway also. Nothing.

I have not checked my new Brownell's catalog, probably because I can't find it. Nevertheless, I have ordered several sets of blued hex-head action screws for my Sakos. I am almost certain they make them for the model 70 also, however, I don't think they have any in stainless.

Yep, Brownells has the hex guard screws in blue for the Model 70's--that is unless the 3 sets I just got were the last ones! [Big Grin]

Yes, I saw the blued ones........They are not stainless........Thanks for the come back though. It seems a little strange that as many stainless steel Model 70's out there, that no one has filled the market with stainless steel Allen head or Torq head trigger guard bolts? [Eek!]

FWIW,
When I was working out the details for my Custom Stainless M70 in .375 H&H with John Ricks this very issue arose. I found stainless guard screws from www.scopeusout.com , however, they were not made of the proper series of Stainless Steels that Mr. Ricks would install. Hence he said would probabely have to make a set for the rifle. At any rate it appears to be a custom job for the time being. In all truth I would be satisfied with ti plated HK guard bolts, however, that isn't a quick fix either.

Regards, Matt.

Matt,

Thank you! 303 stainless is OK for me........It should be fine for a 30-06 action. I just wanted to get away from those straight slots. Thanks again for the come back.

I prefer slotted screws on bottom metal, as hex head can be tightened to the point of crushing the bottom of the metal in the bottom metal, as well as wood, pillars and lord knows what else, also they do not fit flush and look bad IMO...

Atkinson,

I certainly understand. Which leads me to a question I have that you might be able answer. What is the correct torque for a post-64 Model 70 action? I don't want to over do it......Nothing in the manual mentions this information. Thanks

FYI, Since I didn't get a answer to how much torque is required for action screws on the Model 70, I called the horse's mouth (Winchester/Browning), they said the correct torque is 60-65 inch pounds.

I thought that is what torque wrenches are for.
