I spoke to the gunsmith yesterday in reguards to a 500 Jeffery on a standard Mauser action. I used to have an article describing how it was done. It also had a drawing and pictures of the altered action. I no longer have this article. I was wondering if anyone had an article, closeup pictures, and/or schematic drawings of the Jeffery conversion of a standard Mauser.

Thanks,

...Catter

No offense to your local gunsmith, but better get a specialist for that job because it is extremely difficult. I suggest considering:

Ryan Breeding, Palmdale, CA
Dennis Olson, Plains, MT
Wells Sports Store, Prescott, AZ

I have a 500 in the shop now on a standard M-98. There ain't much of the action left!!

It takes a special follower, mag box, and a LOT of machining. This one feeds like a snake down a drain pipe.

tough deal.. it's a 3.65 round.. i've been loading at 3.45, trying to figure out what to do for the box, on an enfield. cut rarely and read jim wiser's article, to get started... I'll give you this.. look HARD at the cz550 in 416 rigby to understand what good would look like, on the rails

I might try it, but I am going to do a lott on a 98 soon

If you're really interested in this, you should know that Jim Wisner made (makes?) proper bottom metal for a 500 Jeffery on a Mauser 98. You might try contacting him. He made it to specs for an Australian concern I believe, but had not done any calculation as far as what dimensions the receiver would need to be machined to.

Someday, I will own a 500 Jeffery on a Mauser 98 -- unfortunately it will be a few years.
