As you may recall I visited Hein's shop in early March. This was after numerous emails and phone calls in which I left voice messages to both his work and home numbers. On every occasion, especially his home number, I was polite and courteous in both tone and content of the messages left. No response.

So I drove to his shop which is about 2.5 hrs from me. Walked in to find him working, sort of. He had promised in January that my actions would be delivered in February. He was visibly unhappy to see me and mentioned that due to me calling him an asshole on AR he wasn't going to work for me and refund my money. I was very taken aback by that as not only had I never called him an asshole I explained that I had never even thought of him in those kind of terms. See at the time I thought he was still a nice guy doing his best.

We discussed how he obviously was mistaking me for someone else and then proceeded to have a nice conversation. However during my visit he admitted that my actions, which he had previously stated were progressing well and almost done didn’t even exist. Needless to say I was shocked but Greg explained that he was going to have to make them by hand, no CNC work in other words, and he was scheduling some time and he looked me in the eye and promised I would have them by fall.
Following Jorge’s advice and his way of doing things I stressed to Greg that for the deal to continue to work I needed firm detailed progress reports and photos. As I heard nothing from Greg, big surprise, I then proceeded to send emails asking for updates. I also left a voice message on his home phone. This is the email that I received in reply.

Howard, I am not sure exactly what you want as far as a work order update.
Do not under any circumstances call my home phone number again. You are not welcome at the shop either.

So I have been stewing and steaming about this since April 22nd. I must stress once again that my relationship with him was never confrontational in any manner. Heck when at his shop I stressed I wanted his product and didn’t care if it was delayed I just wanted to know a time frame as to when it would be done.

This is a guy who took 2500 of my money and doesn’t feel he owes me anything in return not even what he promised to deliver and took money for. On the same day I replied as follows.


Greg I am not comfortable with your lack of response or vague answers when you do respond. Your last email was rude and uncalled for. Any issues you have are issues of your own creation. I no longer feel comfortable or confident that you will ever deliver what you say. I had held out hope that due to our face to face discussions and our almost neighbors situation you would perform for me when you have failed for all your other customers. I had held out hope and had defended you and spoke positively regarding you whenever you name came up. Then you drop this, don't call me and don't visit me bomb! Greg just what the heck do you expect me to think? You take my money, then lie about progress and delivery dates but think I shouldn't contact you or visit to check on my investment.
When I visited your shop recently you offered me a refund. Please cancel my order and provide me with a refund promptly. I would like an acknowledgment of this email please.

Greg, you obviously don't appreciate your customers and have made no effort to either. It’s too bad it’s come to this. Let me know when I can expect a refund. Howard.



I have since come to the conclusion that Greg’s issues are not growing pains or anything work or production related. He is simply arrogant and lazy. I gave him every benefit of the doubt in this situation and placed my money, trust and confidence in him. He has not even the courtesy or decency to reply to my simple questions. I could call him other names but why bother?

I can empathize to acertain extent with you and Jorge and the others. What say we consider getting together May 28-29th and visit the man. It's always nice to have a third party not directly involved along to help recollect the conversation.
And we can always post his home phone number here to allow more direct contact by his other victims...errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! customers.

I am willing to help others however I can to get their investments back.

However this issue I posted here is less about the actual money involved and more about the type of person Greg is. I am very disappointed in both him and also myself for trusting him.

Gentlemen, this now third or fourth thread on this issue clearly is indicative of the situation and needed to be said so others could be informed and maybe not make the mistake(s) I and others made. It is in the hands of the attorneys now and on the advice of two good friends of mine here, we should let the attorneys handle this. jorge

I think it has more to do with the fact he doesn't know how to program the CNC to make Mauser actions.

Yes, this is now Hein thread number 3 on Active Duty. If you read them in total it is clear this guy is a jackass. He is also rude and seemingly unwavering in his arrogance. He does not belong in business.

If you are at least reading this Greggy, please be advised I seriously considered doing business with you. However, I am about to take possession of a nice Model 70 in LH and I will be sending it to Mark Penrod for his expert work. I might also add Mr. Penrod has worked hard at his craft but also (pay attention here) at his sense of proper business etiquette. You could learn a lot from him and from others who post here.

At this point I hope the members whose money you have accepted really put the boots to ya jerkoff. You have brought it on and you deserve it.

I don't know about this guy or the situation, but I bet if I lived close enough to my gunsmith to drive over he'd tell me I wasn't welcome any more (of course when i suggested we move closer to him my wife pointed out he'd rapidly get tired of me, but that she'd probably like the quiet time).

I wonder if he truly ever has machined an action from scratch or, as someone suggested on the other thread, he just finished out the partially-built actions that he got from Pete Noreen when he purchased the business.

The ONLY way I got a response from Greg is after calling him at home an dleaving 1-2 messages a day. I would leave messages on hisshop phone when I couild get through and it would accept messages, which was not very often. Same for his email-it bounced back most of the time.

I don't need to know anything about you because my answer applies whether its you or anyone else. What you implied was that if you had put money down with Mr. Hein and not received your action you would be needing an attorney to defend you instead of represent you in some sort of breach of contract action. If one states that one would need an attorney to defend him that implies either a physical threat, a trespass, or some other type of inentional tort or criminal act, all of which could result in justified retaliation from the other person. If the other person gets the first draw that could be all she wrote. Nuff said...............

while you are right in your reasoning 22wrf, that hinges on the intended victim being either expecting of an attempt to harm them or seeing it coming. maybe the guy does look over his shoulder a lot, jumps at little noises, but what if he doesn't? I'm just pointing out that it could just as easily, and more likely, go the other way.
