According to A-Square's manual, this conversion with a model 700 action is dicey; the round-bottomed 700 receiver isn't wide enough at the feed ramp to accommodate the bigger diameter case. The (flat-bottomed) model 70 is better suited. Not to mention what a can-of-worms opening up the 700's bolt face would be. The parent case is the 460 Weatherby, so you can form cases by lopping off some of the length and moving the shoulder back with a sizing die. Do you have your heart set on the A-Square cartridge, or do you just want a "Big 45"? You can get practically the same performance (within 100 fps) without nearly the hassle by converting to a .458 Lott or .450 Ackley. No mods necessary to the bolt face, magazine, feed rails, etc.

I agree with FB's points. Ammo and cases used to be available from A-Square, which I hear is back in business. Yes a 700 could be converted, but you would really be pushing the edge of the design. If you want a big 45, I like the Ackley. If you want a big 45 on a 700, go 45 RUM. FWIW. - Dan
