My M700 stainless is going to get a McMillan swirly.

I find this funny, or at least downright amusing --- because I think you guys are serious.

The correct answer, of course, is pick something - anything that you like. If you like green, then some variation of that will be fine. The reason is because it ain't gonna turn out as you envision anyway, and it's the function of the stock that counts, after all. No doubt, McMillans are functional stocks, whatever the color. Heck, my brother ran over one of my rifles with his truck (it's a long and embarrasing story, and my fault) and I could not find any harm was done.

The swirleys are way over thought, by the customer. I have noticed lately that McMillan has gotten more consistant with the contrasts, rather than mushed together like they used to do.

There are just so many good combos - pick one and be happy.

Why not? Tigers are hunters, right? If nature saw fit to give those colors to something that has the hunter instinct like a Tiger, then it has my attention.

Uh, Ted, as far as I know, there's a difference in fiberglass stocks, and plastic stocks. Surely you know, and you're just being sarcastic? I know they are terribly over priced. But, OTOH, have you checked the price of just the checkering on walnut lately - let's see, humm, $100 a panel times four - darn that's nearly the price of a McMillan pre-fit. I wish that Hogue (rubber-plastic ?) or HS (fiberglass ?) would cut into their market share so badly that they would half the price on McMillans, keeping the same quality of course. Or, at least cut the delivery time in half, or how about a novel idea - in stock, ready for shipment. That's happiness - dreaming.

Picked it up when I was in a hurry. Off the shelf from McMillan, some kind of gray/gray/black I think. Have a wood stock to replace it if I ever get going on this one again.

Wait till it breaks, or doesn't shoot well, then replace it. In such case, you'll be waiting a long time.

However, ugly is another subject. Owning a McMillan is appreciation of form and function, and not having to worry about the weather, scratches, or having to baby the stock - just use it, whenever & wherever for whatever. I've used mine like a walking stick when climbing mountain sides, and I've fell on one hard on a rock slide, with no significant damage. I've carried mine in a hard rain, for days, used it to push aside devils club, dripping wet, same deal, no problem.

I haven't use it for a tomatoe stake yet. Humm.

I get a bit tired of some of the responses but thanks for the links. I've got 2 painted black and 1 moulded. I really like them but was lucky with the moulded one in that I would have hated what I was going to order but McMillan advised me what to get instead.

Probably going black/green/grey this time.

34% Med Brown, 33% light Brown, 33% Black ask them to do a wood grain pattern. If you search 24 campfire you can see it. It looks very nice on any rifle IMHO!

50% gray, 40% white, 10% black

The ones that I have are by God black?

I generalize all synthetics as "plastic" and have more than a couple.
No I do not have a McMillan. I do have a H.S. on a Remington 700 and a Bell & Carlson Medalist on my Weatherby SBGM both are good stocks and neither are checkered (something I do not like in a "plastic" stock) and they are all overpriced.

As far as ugly......to each his own......most are ugly.

I prefer "ugly plastic" to ugly plain wood any day.

My six year old son almost came to tears when I traded off this rifle.

I have a McMillan A-5 on a long range plinker. I refer to the pattern as "vomit camo". Near as I can tell it's 50% feces, 40% mud and 10% cow cud.

Am I gonna have to fork out my own cash to see a tiger striped Micky?
