I just finished reading Keiths "Sixguns". He several times talkes about a new "U" type main spring for S & Ws, which will cure all diseases, perhaps even BSE.There is but one pic about this in the book.

Now apart from the fact that IMHO this is the principle of the old Colt springs, does anybody know:

Why are Smiths still delivered with the "flat" spring, as Elmer called it ??

Good shooting! H

Dunno, but maybe it's a moot question: Wolff Gunsprings offers a "Power Rib Mainspring" for S&W revolvers which requires next to no fitting (just a little at the hooks) and does an ideal job in smoothing the mainspring function in these guns. Website:

or, check the Brownells catalog....

No, theres a photo in "Sixguns", the top hooks are at the hammer, but then the spring goes to the backstrap, forms an "U" in the grip frame, and the other part of the "U" goes up again and powers the trigger.

Keith wrote, that he removed the trigger return spring, and the gun still worked.

If You substitute the "U" for an "V" You have the old Colt mainspring.

Anybody read this book, or works at S & W?

Good shooting! H
