cbennettModel 88 Winchester Locked Open
Gentlemen, would anyone know of an expert on the Model 88 Winchester? I have a stock 88 in .308 that is fine but my custom .25/284 that I bought from a friends estate has locked open. This has happened before and our local smith replaced the links, things were fine during sight in etc., but this evening my son shot a buck and when he went to cycle the action it ejected the empty but the bolt stuck open.
This gun shoots great and I want to make it right. Any suggestions or smiths who have experiance on these?
Thanks Chris

JBrownI had Tip Burns put one together for me a few years ago.
(Please don't ask me who took it apart)

p dog shooterFrist thing I would do is look for something struck in the action.

cbennettP, dog, nothing stuck, I just pulled it from the stock and it finally went shut. I wouldn't dare try to take it any further. It almost appears to be over camming.
