Well,

After the last discussion here I decided to go clean the coolant out my sump and it was not a pleasant experience. However now that I have it clean I want to switch to cutting oil but I'm having trouble finding a supplier. Can some of you that use the Mobil product give me a contact so I can get some on the way. I've been holding off on chambering and now have about a half dozen barrels to chamber.

Industrial oils are often handled by such suppliers as Grainger, Machine tool supply, John Day Co, Industrial Abrasive, Industrial Pipe and Steel Co, Enco, and several others.

Look in the yellow pages for industrial suppliers!

I found a "local" distributor and they delivered it for free when they came through on their normal route. Much cheaper than going through a mail order supplier.

Just click on the map linked below.

Personally, I think it foolish to go with a cutting oil instead of a water soluable one. When I worked for NWA, they had oil in most of the machines and it was nothing but a sloppy mess. You can get an additive to add to your water soluable to keep it more fresh. Besides, the cutting oil will not give you the cooling you may want.

For cutting oil I use Mobilmet Omega. http://www.mobil.com/USA-Engli...igma_Gamma_Omega.asp

If I need a coolant I use Kool Mist.

I don't know how you guys are buying it but around here nobody will sell it in less than 55 gallons. I was really looking for a phone number, I've already been through the suppliers in my area with no luck. I would still be money ahead paying hazmat on 5 gallon pail.

You can buy it though the tool houses by the gallon if you like. I use mobilmet omega for chambering and threading. Try MSC, Enco, etc...

No faster than chamber reamers are run cutting oils will provide superior cutting but they are a stinky mess. I think I would use a cheap hand lotion - lanolin and mineral oil. Smells better cuts well and does not stink the place up.
Nothing like a guy chewing tobacco and spitting into the sump.

I wouldn't trust a gunshop that didn't have the slightest hint of Sulpher or Hoppes in the air. Big Grin
