Actually have a set of Conetrol bases that came with the barrelled action but they are different heights too but the difference isn't as great as the others have been.

Guess I'm not following the what kind of Sako question, i.e. Browning-Sako?? It is simply a Sako L579 Action with a Shilen barrel.

Just found out the Weaver mounts are two different sizes also! Can't believe it is this difficult just to put a scope on a rifle!

What are the odds of a mismatched pair of rings doing the trick? Say low in the back and high in the front?

When I used to do a lot of this kind of thing we had a box with all the Weaver bases. If a customer had an odd rifle we would mix and match bases to get the correct height and hole spacing. I am no big fan of Weaver but a well set up shop should be able to take car of you if you decide you can live with Weaver.

A thought here, check the Brownell's catalog or maybe Weaver has a site? There should be a listing somewhere for height and hole spacing. Figure it aout and order the ones you need.

Is this the same reciver/action as magnum research used for their rifles? I know they had rifles based on both short and long actions.

I think they used remington bases for theirs? My old McMillan required remington 700 front.

Bwana,

I had the same problem with a Weatherby Mark V in 7mm-08. Ordered and sent back several different rings. All the hole lines up but the rear base was always way too tall and missmatching parts did not help either.

I finally went with Leupold Dual Dove Tail bases with Burris Signature Rings. I like the look of the Leupold bases over the Burris Bases. The signature rings use the Posi-Aline plastic inserts. You can then order corrective inserts to fix the alignment problem. Order the Gunsmith set of inserts as it will be easier/less frustrateing and potentially cheaper, once to figure in shipping for multiple inserts bought individually. The corrective inserts come in three "sizes", Plus and minus .005, .010, and .020. I ended up using two sets of the "20's" to correct the Weatherby. As long as the hole pattern lines up they should correct the virticle problem.
